We welcome everyone to join S\u00f4ng2Sea for a presentation, screening of Vietnam Symphony (2006), and discussion on April 30th from 6 to 8:30pm PST at 606 Maynard Ave S #104 or on Zoom.

2025 marks 80 years since the August Revolution against French and Japanese colonialism and 50 years since the end of the war in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. To commemorate this occasion, we will give a brief historical grounding of the colonization of Indochina, the impact of U.S. military intervention and sanctions, and the progress that Vietnam has made, as well as ongoing challenges that the country faces today.

This documentary by Tom Zubrycki tells the story of the underground campus, Hanoi National Conservatory of Music, built after the musicians fled Hanoi in 1965. “While the war raged on, they lived, studied, and played music for five years. Combining remarkable archival footage with contemporary interviews and a sublime soundtrack, it paints a portrait of life then and now, in a rapidly changing nation.”
